COLLABORATION THURSDAYS FOR OCTOBER THE 30TH

DRIVERS ED CLASSES are started TODAY, Monday, Oct 27 zero period, if interested come to the front office and sign up.

THE ANNUAL ATHLETIC BOOSTER CHICKEN BBQ FUNDRAISER will be held on Sunday, November 2, from 12:00-4:00PM in the cafeteria. Here’s your chance to have a huge, delicious meal and help out Rio Mesa at the same time! Tickets are available from all athletes and at the Student Window for $10. Please come out and support the Spartans!

COLLEGE APPLICATION WORKSHOP Seniors come for assistance with any type of the college applications and or personal statements in room 34 the following three Tuesdays, Oct, 28, Nov. 2nd and Nov. 18th. Or in the school library the next three Saturdays, Nov 1st, 15th, and 22nd. Students MUST SIGN UP if you plan to attend. Please sign up in the College and the career center with Mrs. Sanchez.

APEX has started after school in Computer Lab 21. Teachers are available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:15 to 4:15. See your counselor about signing up for APEX today.

YOUTH CONFERENCE Juniors and Seniors field trip Oxnard College—Reservations are still open to go to the Oxnard College Youth Conference on Friday, Nov. 7, from 7:50 AM-2:30 PM. You will explore Career and Personal Growth Workshops, Learn about College Courses and Community Service Opportunities, visit a resource fair and be given lunch. Pick up permission forms from Mrs. Anderson in the College and Career Center or from Mr. Ruffinelli in Rm. 19. Completed forms must be returned to Mrs. Anderson or Mr. Ruffinelli by Wed., Oct. 29.

SEASONAL JOB OPENINGS Levi’s Outlet Store in Camarillo is holding open interviews for students, aged 16 and older, who wish to apply for one of several “seasonal support assistant part-time” positions. Apply on-line at levistrauss.com/careers then go to an open interview session. The dates of the interview sessions can be found on a flyer in the College and Career Center. Stop by the C&CC and pick up an informational flyer.

YOUR FUTURE STARTS HERE! FAMILY CONFERENCE Lots of information about how to go to college—financial aid, career selection, scholarships and university presentations. This event is FREE to students and their families that are in grades 11th and 12th. There will be Spanish and English presentations available. When: Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, 8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Where: Pacifica High School, 600 E. Gonzales Road

LATE BUS The after school late bus runs from Monday to Thursday. Take advantage of opportunities for tutoring and use of computers in the library. See Mr. Johnson in the office for more details Student pick up time is at 4:35 pm and leave time is at 4:45pm. Two new bus stops have been added—Nye-land Avenue and Ventura Blvd. Also Rose Avenue and Gonzales Rd.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Earn Community Service credits by volunteering to be a “disaster victim” for First Responder training of a pretend disaster—earthquake, fire, etc. Make-up artists are needed as well. There will be many training sessions, but lots of volunteers are needed on Saturday, Nov. 1. This is a great opportunity for drama students, and would be fun for everyone! See Mrs. Anderson in the College and Career Center for information.

ATTENTION STUDENTS Please donate any used costumes or items that could be used for props in Drama class and for Drama Club in room 13. Drive is from NOW to Nov 15. Thank you for your support.

JUNIORS and SENIORS interested in the performing arts—voice, acting and dance—might want to consider joining the Young Americans College of the Performing Arts. There will be a Master Class for High School Men on Saturday, Oct. 25, and a Workshop, Tour and Auditions for all interested High School Juniors and Seniors on Nov. 22. Pick up more information from Mrs. Anderson in the College and Career Center.

MARCHING BAND & COLOR GUARD FUNDRAISER EVERY Wednesday in October at red brick pizza, 4990 Telephone Road, Ventura. The fundraiser each Wednesday runs all day, and a percentage of sales will be donated to the band – just mention Rio Mesa High School Marching Band & Color Guard.

ESPARTANOS: The Latin American Student Organization or LASO meets EVERY Wednesday at 12:25 in Room 22.

AIR FORCE ACADEMY Any student interested in possibly attending the Air Force Academy after high school graduation should pick up information on the application process from Mrs. Anderson in the College and Career Center.

CAMARILLO LIBRARY Want to put your brain in gear come join us for makerspace or an evening of construction. Team of 2 persons recommended. We meet EVERY third Thursday of the month from 6-8pm in the young adult area at the Camarillo Library. See you there.

ATTENDANCE If absent, you only have 3 days to clear an absence. Come to the Attendance window before classes begin, during nutrition, lunch or after school.

LIBRARY BOOKS remember to RENEW OR RETURN your library books. Library staff is here to assist you beginning at 7am! Students who fail to return overdue books will be receiving phone calls home. Don’t delay to return them now.

TEMPORARY JOB OFFER: SENIORS who are interested in working as a Poll worker, at Polling Stations for the Nov. 4 elections, are invited to submit an application. You will earn $110 for training and work on Election Day. Pick up information and an application in the College and Career Center.

STUDENTS with overdue textbooks please return ASAP!!! Textbooks can be returned daily between the hours of 7:00am and 3:30pm, the textbook room is also open, for your convenience, during nutrition and lunch. Thank you to all the students who have been returning overdue materials, your cooperation is much appreciated.
