FALL ATHLETIC AWARDS NIGHT – Athletes from Football, Girls Volleyball, Girls Tennis, Cross-Country, Girls Golf, & Boys Water Polo were recognized at annual Fall Athletic Awards Night held Tuesday, December 3, 7 p.m., in the gym.  Congratulations to the following athletes who were lauded as “Most Valuable” in their respective sportsBrian FitzGerald, Athletic Director

 posada 3posadaPosada Navideña – On Friday night, December 5th, Rio Mesa held its annual Posada Navideña in the cafeteria. More than a hundred Rio Mesa families participated by bringing traditional holiday foods to share. There were outstanding presentations by Rio Mesa students, with lots of music, dancing and singing.  Parents also participated in a raffle to win backpacks full of canned foods donated by ASB. The evening concluded with a visit by Santa Claus who gave bags of candy to all the children that were present.  A very special thanks to California MiniCorps teachers Gloria De Lira, Cristal Vasquez and Alberto Mendoza who helped our students to coordinate this special event…Paul Johnson, Special Programs Counselor


CAREER/TECHNICAL EDUCATIONBaking and Pastry is finishing a unit on quick breads.  They made donuts, beignets, scones and tea bread.  Culinary Foundations Is finishing the unit on soups with a trio of chicken soups made with homemade stock…Mary Clayton, Department Chair

COUNSELING Cindi Fredrick, Melissa Gunnels and Kristine Kenney attended the Ventura County Counselor Association Fall Conference.  Workshops presented information on Eating Disorders, Cutting, and Healthy Teen Relationships.  Information will be shared with staff to make them aware of these issues affecting our students’ education…Kirk Raymond, Counselor

COLLEGE & COLLEGE CENTER – Mrs. Anderson met with other College and Career Center Technicians from across Ventura County on Wednesday, December 10, to tour the Ventura Adult and Continuing Education.  They learned about their Career Technical Programs, Youth Employment Programs, Adult literacy programs, GED preparation programs, and other ways this organization can assist students 18 years of age or older.

On Thursday, Mrs. Anderson attended the Ronald Reagan Scholars Program kickoff in Simi Valley.  She heard testimonials from last year’s scholars and received information about how to offer this program to students.  High School Seniors who exemplify outstanding leadership skills and personal character should apply to this program to earn college scholarships.  Mrs. Anderson will advertise this opportunity to students in the January Scholarship List…Sally Anderson, College and Career Center

ZAP (Zeros Aren’t Permitted)This Saturday will be the last ZAP session until after Winter Break.

Over 50 students are attending ZAP making up tests, completing homework, and working with groups on projects and test preparation.  ​ZAP will start up again on January 10, 2015, 8:15 to 12 noon in the Library.
