 SENIORS Don’t forget that the application for the Ventura County Community Foundation (VCCF) Scholarships is due on Monday, January 12.  Only students from Ventura County will be considered for winning some of the 60+ scholarships they offer. Pick up information in the College and Career Center.  Apply today!

BOYS VOLLEYBALL: All boys interested in playing volleyball this season, tryouts will be on January 31st from 8-10am in the gym. A completed physical form must be on file or turned before the tryout to be able to participate. A printout of your semester grades is also needed to tryout.  PARKING LOTS Starting January 2015 any vehicle not displaying a Rio Mesa parking permit in the front (staff) parking lot will be issued a ticket.  No students are allowed to park in the staff parking.  ALL students MUST park in the student parking lot.  Thank you for your cooperation.

 ZAP PEER TUTORS NEEDED.  We have an opening for a rotating peer tutor every Saturday at ZAP.  If you would like to help your fellow Rio Mesa students get better grades sign up to be a Peer tutor.  Strengths in any subject are helpful, but Math, English, Science and Word Processing/Power point/ Excel are exceptionally beneficial to our community.  See Mr. Raymond to sign up.

PRE-ENGINEERING PROGRAM Sign-ups are now being taken for the offered to juniors and seniors who are interested learning more about careers in engineering. The classes will be held after school at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Port Hueneme one day a week for 11 weeks. You will need to provide your own transportation. Please see Mrs. Gunnels in the office for an application. ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE IN BY FRI. JAN. 16.

FINALS ARE NEXT WEEK.  ZAP starts again this Saturday 8:15 to 12:15 in the library.  Get on board and form a study group to help ACE your final exams or finish any missing assignments.

 GAP YEAR FAIRStudents not quite ready to commit to going to college right after high school graduation might want to consider doing an internship for one semester or one year to help better determine what area of study they wish to pursue.  The Dynamy Internship Year is holding a GAP YEAR FAIR at Santa Barbara High School on Saturday, Jan. 17, from 1:30-4 PM.  Pick up a flyer with more information in the College and Career Center.

 MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. CELEBRATION  Be part of the choir at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Observance at the Oxnard performing Arts Center, on Monday, January 19.  Choir rehearsals are Saturdays, January 3, 10 and 17 from 10 AM-12 noon at Bethel A.M.E.  Church, 855 F. Street, Oxnard.  Pick up a flyer in the College and Career Center.

 APEX has started after school in Computer Lab 21. Teachers are available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:15 to 4:15. See your counselor about signing up for APEX today.

 NOW HIRING—LIFEGUARDS AND SWIM INSTRUCTORS The Pleasant Valley Aquatic Center is holding tryouts for Lifeguards and Swim Instructors.  For dates and information, pick up a flyer in the College and Career Center.

 RIO MESA SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION (RMSF) Saturday, January 24, 2015 RMSF is hosting a free e-waste recycling fundraiser wondering what to do with your old electronics especially after purchasing new ones over the holidays? Bring the old ones to the Rio Mesa Scholarship Foundation (RMSF) E-waste Recycling Fundraiser.  Computers, computer monitors, TVs, printers, cell phones, fax machines, DVD machines, small kitchen appliances, car batteries and back up batteries for the computer will be accepted.  Large appliances such as refrigerators and small batteries will not be accepted.  Proceeds from this event will benefit RMSF, a non-profit organization which supports and distributes college scholarships to RMHS seniors.   Any questions, please e-mail us @riomesascholarships@gmail.com.  ALL STUDENTS Would you like to learn more about a possible career or internship in such fields as Tourism, Forestry, Agriculture, Communications, or Building Management, to name a few?  There will be an Agriculture Career Fair on Jan. 29, from 4-7 PM at the MVC Agriculture Museum in Santa Paula.  Come speak with community members and business people from Ventura County who work in these and other fields.  Pick up more information in the College and Career Center.

 SWIMMERS American Red Cross LIFEGUARD TRAINING is being offered by the Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District in Camarillo.  Must be age 15+.  Classes held in January and February.  Cost is $179.  Pick up a flyer in the College and Career Center.

 NOW HIRING Lifeguards for the Casitas Water Adventure.  Must be at least 15 years old and a strong swimmer.  Pick up information and an application in the College and Career Center.

SENIORS:  The VCCF Scholarship application is now available!  This organization has approximately 65 scholarships available only to Ventura County students.  Log in to https://vccf.starsscholarshipsonline.com/stars/default.aspx to set up your account and begin your application today.

ATTENDANCE If absent, you only have 3 days to clear an absence.  Come to the Attendance window before classes begin, during nutrition, lunch or after school.  If you are leaving early due to an appointment please bring in a note to the office before school starts.

 STUDENTS IN GRADES 9 – 12 SPEAKERS CONTEST AND ESSAY CONTESTS.  Local organizations are seeking students to participate in their contests to win cash or scholarships.  Some contests close at the end of January.  Come to the College and Career Center for information.

 SENIORS JANUARY SCHOLARSHIP LIST is now available in the College and Career Center.  Some scholarships have deadlines in early January.  Pick up your copy today and apply, apply, apply! Remember, this is free money that you could win.

 ALL STUDENTS The 26th Annual Black College Tour will be held during Spring Break.  Students have a chance to visit 14 Historically Black Colleges during our Spring Break.  A reservation and deposit are required by Feb. 1, 2015.  This is a good way to visit many colleges you may be considering during one trip.  Pick up a flyer with more information in the College and Career Center.
