What’s Happening 

 

4 days until Sophomore CAHSEE Test on Tuesday and Wednesday March 17 & 18

Late Start Collaboration Days for March are the 19 and the 26

 

WINTER ATHLETES the ANNUAL WINTER ATHLETIC AWARDS NIGHT will be held on Monday night, March 16, at 7:00pm in the gym. Athletes from basketball, soccer, wrestling and girl’s water polo will be honored.  Please inform your parents and plan on attending.

 

CHEER TRYOUTS will begin March 19th-26th from 4:00 pm-530 in the girl’s activity room.  Please pick up a parent permission slip from Coach G in room 39.

 

SPARTAN CAFETERIA Salad Bar EVERY Tuesday & Friday

 

COMPUTER PROFICIENCY TEST It’s back!  And will be given after school in room 34 on March 19th, 23rd, 24th, and 25th.  Sign up with Ms. Ricards in the library – space is limited so don’t miss your chance.  Please allow two hours to complete the test.  Demonstration of computer literacy is required for graduation.

 

SPARTANS Are you feeling worldly?  How about bilingual or trilingual?  Well, this is just for you!  The Seal of Bi-Literacy applications are here and you can pick them up in room 75.  There are several ways to earn this sealDue date is April 7th. Why wait?  Come by today and submit it.  See your French, Mandarin or Spanish teacher for more information

 

SENIORS-Need assistance completing your different SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS?  Come to ZAP this Saturday and spend the morning researching and completing scholarships.  There are many scholarships that go unawarded every year because no one completes the application.  Get started in ZAP.  Many due dates are in March, so don’t delay.

 

ALL STUDENTS: Would you like to be a Volunteer Coach? Rio Real School is looking for high school students to help coach their sports teams in boys and girls Soccer, boys Volleyball, and slow-pitch girls Softball. This is a great way to accumulate community service hours! If interested, please contact Lionel Carrizales at (805) 794-1993.

 

APEX STUDENTS! Remember that APEX schedule has been changed for second semester. APEX class is now meeting in Room 21 after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays ONLY from 3:15-4:15  Late buses will be running. Don’t forget to do your assignments for your APEX class; it’s not just quizzes and tests! See you after school.

ZAP PEER TUTORS NEEDED  We have an opening for a rotating peer tutor every Saturday at ZAP.  If you would like to help your fellow Rio Mesa students get better grades sign up to be a Peer tutor.  Strengths in any subject are helpful, but Math, English, Science and Word Processing/Power point/ Excel are exceptionally beneficial to our community.  See Mr. Raymond to sign up.

 

DROPPING OFF ITEMS a quick reminder for student pick-up.  All items dropped off at school by parents, such as lunches or forgotten items, should go through the main office.  These items remain in the office and students have access to pick them up during passing periods, nutrition break, or at lunch.  Please note that these items are NOT sent directly to classrooms with respect to instructional time.

 

ATTENDANCE If absent, you only have 3 days to clear an absence.  Come to the Attendance window before classes begin, during nutrition, lunch or after school.  If you are leaving early due to an appointment please bring in a note to the office before school starts.

 

PARKING LOTS Any vehicle not displaying a Rio Mesa parking permit in the front (staff) parking lot will be issued a ticket.  No students are allowed to park in the staff parking.  ALL students MUST park in the student parking lot.  Thank you for your cooperation.

 

College and Career Center Information 

 

COMMUNITY COLLEGE ENROLLMENT WORKSHOPS  Application workshop TODAY, March 11th at Lunch in room 25/34 also March 18th during Lunch and after school in room 25/34

 

MARCH SCHOLARSHIP LIST is available in the College and Career Center.  There are 21 new listings and many are only for local students!! Some have deadline dates in the next couple of weeks.  Pick up your copy in the College and Career Center (C&CC) today or look under “scholarships” in the C&CC dept. on the riomesahigh.us website.

 

OCEAN LIFEGUARD POSITIONS OPEN Must have a CA driver license, be physically strong, and willing to work weekends and holidays.  Ocean testing date is Saturday, March 14 at Leo Carrillo State Beach. For information, pick up a flyer in the College and Career Center and go to www.parks.ca.gov/aquaticsafely to see a lifeguard training video.  Starting pay is $14.91 per hour.

 

**OUHSD STUDENT CAREER FAIRMarch 27, 9:35-noon  Sophomore, Junior and Senior students may take a field trip to the Oxnard Performing Arts Center to talk with representatives from 75+ careers.  This is the big annual district-wide event.  Don’t miss it!!  Pick up a permission slip in the College and Career Center TODAY.  Permission slips must be submitted to the College and Career Center by March 23, or until busses fill up!

 

CASITAS WATER ADVENTURE is now hiring Lifeguards.  Must be at least 15 years old.  Students must submit an application at least one week before the required swim test.  Swim tests will be held on March 29 and April 26 at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club.  Pick up information and an application in the College and Career Center.

 

ATTENTION SENIORS the Rio Mesa Scholarship Foundation (RMSF) application is available at the College and Career Center or to download from the RMSF Website.  Completed application are to be turned into Sally Anderson at the College and Career Center.  Application is due April 8, 2015.

 

JOB OPPORTUNITY the California State Parks system is recruiting for Seasonal State Park Aides.  You would be helping maintain the State Park to which you were assigned, and will be working at the Park’s entrance station.  The parks are located in the Malibu area.  There is no age restriction.  Salary is $10.18 per hour.   Information is available in the College and Career Center.
