Late Start Collaboration Day for April is Thursday the 23rd

 

UC BERKELEY: Cal Day is Saturday, April 18, at UC Berkeley.  Please let any student, who might want to experience UC Berkeley, know about the events of this Open House. If you have any questions please email this link to the Cal Day webpage http://calday.berkeley.edu/ or call (510) 642-4943.

 

SAT PRACTICE TEST  Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 8:00-12:00 pm and Overview of test and Critical Reading, Math and writing will be Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 8:00-12:00 pm in room 34.   Please see Mr. Raymond in the front office to pick up a form to register.

 

ALL STUDENTS: Would you like to be a Volunteer Coach? Rio Real School is looking for high school students to help coach their sports teams in boys and girls Soccer, boys Volleyball, and slow-pitch girls Softball. This is a great way to accumulate community service hours! If interested, please contact Lionel Carrizales at (805) 794-1993.

 

APEX STUDENTS! Remember that APEX schedule has been changed for second semester. APEX class is now meeting in Room 21 after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays ONLY from 3:15-4:15.  Late buses will be running. Don’t forget to do your assignments for your APEX class; it’s not just quizzes and tests! See you after school.

 

DIGITAL PHOTO CLUB meeting in room 74 EVERY Monday during lunch in room 74.

 

WRESTLING Spring Practice have started on Wednesdays at 5:30 in the wrestling room. Anyone interested for next year is welcomed or come see Mr. Flores in room T-4.

 

SPARTAN CAFETERIA Salad Bar EVERY DAY in the main cafeteria will be provided.  See you there!

 

ZAP PEER TUTORS NEEDED.  We have an opening for a rotating peer tutor every Saturday at ZAP.  If you would like to help your fellow Rio Mesa students get better grades sign up to be a Peer tutor.  Strengths in any subject are helpful, but Math, English, Science and Word Processing/Power point/ Excel are exceptionally beneficial to our community.  See Mr. Raymond to sign up.

 

DROPPING OFF ITEMS a quick reminder for student pick-up.  All items dropped off at school by parents, such as lunches or forgotten items, should go through the main office.  These items remain in the office and students have access to pick them up during passing periods, nutrition break, or at lunch.  Please note that these items are NOT sent directly to classrooms with respect to instructional time.

 

ATTENDANCE If absent, you only have 3 days to clear an absence.  Come to the Attendance window before classes begin, during nutrition, lunch or after school.  If you are leaving early due to an appointment please bring in a note to the office before school starts.

 

PARKING LOTS Any vehicle not displaying a Rio Mesa parking permit in the front (staff) parking lot will be issued a ticket.  No students are allowed to park in the staff parking.  ALL students MUST park in the student parking lot.  Thank you for your cooperation.

 

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS Please return ALL overdue Library and Textbooks ASAP!!  If your books are lost come in to make payment arrangements.  Please return your books or pay for them.

 

College and Career Center Information 

 

DREAM OF FLYING?  Want to learn more about aerodynamics?  On Saturday, April 18, from 10 AM-4 PM, there is a program called GROUND SCHOOL:  THE ART & SCIENCE OF FLYING which will be held at the Camarillo Airport.  There will be informational sessions throughout the day.  Cost is $65 to participate and advance registration is required.  Pick up a flyer in the College and Career Center.

 

NATIONAL COLLEGE FAIR:  ALL STUDENTS should plan to attend this, the BIGGEST COLLEGE FAIR OF THE YEAR!!  On Monday, April 20, 5:30-8:30 PM at the Ventura County Fairgrounds representatives from all over the United States, and International, will be present to give information and answer questions. Pick up a flyer in the College and Career Center.  PUT THIS ON YOUR CALENDAR AND DON’T MISS THIS!

 

NEWS WRITING & PRODUCING any student interested in a career in Journalism, or Communications?  The Journalism Department at Moorpark College is holding an Open House on April 23 from 3:30-4:30 PM.  Learn about the major and develop your 2-year transfer plan. A flyer with information is available in the College and Career Center.

 

ATHLETES All Athletes in all sports are invited to the 7th Annual Sports Expo.  Learn about innovative training concepts, skills, colleges, health, equipment, etc.  It will be held at the Ontario Convention Center, in Ontario, CA, on May 30, 2015, from 10 AM-4 PM.  Admission is $8 at the door and $5 online.  Information can be found at https://thecollegeexpo.org or pick up a flyer in the College and Career Center.

 

JOB OPPORTUNITY the California State Parks system is recruiting for Seasonal State Park Aides.  You would be helping maintain the State Park to which you were assigned, and will be working at the Park’s entrance station.  The parks are located in the Malibu area.  There is no age restriction.  Salary is $10.18 per hour.   Information is available in the College and Career Center.

 

APRIL SCHOLARSHIP LIST is now available.  There are 13 new listings and many are only for local students!  Pick up a copy on the College and Career Center today!

 

SENIORS:  Keep working on scholarship applications!  You might be the winning applicant! Submit applications well before the deadline date.  Tell Mrs. Anderson, in the College and Career Center as soon as you receive a scholarship award, either from the college you will attend, or from a private organization.
