What’s Happening 

LAST Late Start for Collaboration Day is Thursday, MAY 14th   

 

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED!!  The American Heart Association is having a “Heart Walk” to raise money for heart disease research.  Volunteers are needed on Saturday, May 2, from 6 AM to 12 noon, to help with the walk—guide walkers, hand out food, help with set-up or clean-up, etc.  Earn Community Service for your resumes.  Pick up a flyer in the College and Career Center.

 

BAILE FOLKLORICO All Welcome, Todos Bienvenidos Practices are Wednesday and Thursday after school on the stage in the quad.  Come join the fun!  See Ms. Montero in the office for more information.

 

ALL STUDENTS: Would you like to be a Volunteer Coach? Rio Real School is looking for high school students to help coach their sports teams in boys and girls Soccer, boys Volleyball, and slow-pitch girls Softball. This is a great way to accumulate community service hours! If interested, please contact Lionel Carrizales at (805) 794-1993.

 

APEX SPARTANS Summer (and graduation) is coming! Remember that the updated APEX schedule is Monday and Tuesday after school in Lab 21, and during lunch on Thursdays in Room T-7 with Mr. Brennan. Don’t wait. See you soon!

 

WRESTLING Spring Practice have started on Wednesdays at 5:30 in the wrestling room. Anyone interested for next year is welcomed or come see Mr. Flores in room T-4.

 

SPARTAN CAFETERIA Salad Bar EVERY DAY in the main cafeteria will be provided.  See you there!

 

DROPPING OFF ITEMS a quick reminder for student pick-up.  All items dropped off at school by parents, such as lunches or forgotten items, should go through the main office.  These items remain in the office and students have access to pick them up during passing periods, nutrition break, or at lunch.  Please note that these items are NOT sent directly to classrooms with respect to instructional time.

 

ATTENDANCE If absent, you only have 3 days to clear an absence.  Come to the Attendance window before classes begin, during nutrition, lunch or after school.  If you are leaving early due to an appointment please bring in a note to the office before school starts.

 

PARKING LOTS Any vehicle not displaying a Rio Mesa parking permit in the front (staff) parking lot will be issued a ticket.  No students are allowed to park in the staff parking.  ALL students MUST park in the student parking lot.  Thank you for your cooperation.

 

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS Please return ALL overdue Library and Textbooks ASAP!!  If your books are lost come in to make payment arrangements.  Please return your books or pay for them.

 

College and Career Center Information 

 

ALL STUDENTS:  Wondering what you might DO this summer???  You can find travel and study opportunities in the SUMMER PROGRAMS list that is available in the College and Career Center.  Come by and pick up a copy TODAY as the deadline to apply for these programs is rapidly approaching!!

 

SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER:  Willem Hair Design, in Camarillo, is holding a Cut-a-thon on Sunday, May 3rd from Noon – 5:00 PM to raise money for a cosmetology school scholarship which will be offered to next year’s graduating seniors at RMHS.  ALL proceeds will go to fund this scholarship.  The haircut is $25. Food and entertainment will be provided. Pick up a flyer in the College and Career Center

 

FUTURE LEADERS OF AMERICAany student who has a commitment to leadership and a 2.8 GPA is invited to apply for the Latino Youth Leadership Program Camp, which will be held August 3-8 in Santa Barbara.  The cost of this six-day program is $40.  Applications are available in the College and Career Center and must be mailed to arrive no later than April 30

 

JUNIORS AND SENIORS:  SAMO YOUTH—Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area is looking for current Junior and Senior students, with a minimum 2.0 GPA, who would like to work outdoors as part of a student crew doing habitat restoration, plant & wildlife work, trail maintenance and visitor education.  The job is full-time and the program would begin June 16 and end August 8.  The pay is $11.07/hr.  Knowledge of a second language is preferred.  Pick up an application in the College and Career Center.  Applications must be mailed and received by Thursday, April 30.

 

ATHLETES All Athletes in all sports are invited to the 7th Annual Sports Expo.  Learn about innovative training concepts, skills, colleges, health, equipment, etc.  It will be held at the Ontario Convention Center, in Ontario, CA, on May 30, 2015, from 10 AM-4 PM.  Admission is $8 at the door and $5 online.  Information can be found at https://thecollegeexpo.org or pick up a flyer in the College and Career Center.

 

JOB OPPORTUNITY the California State Parks system is recruiting for Seasonal State Park Aides.  You would be helping maintain the State Park to which you were assigned, and will be working at the Park’s entrance station.  The parks are located in the Malibu area.  There is no age restriction.  Salary is $10.18 per hour.   Information is available in the College and Career Center.

 

MAY SCHOLARSHIP LIST is now available in the College and Career Center.  This is possibly the last list of the school year and 24 scholarships listed will expire sometime in the next two weeks!  Pick up applications, read instructions carefully, and apply. You might win FREE $$$$.

 

SENIORS:  Keep working on scholarship applications!  You might be the winning applicant! Submit applications well before the deadline date.  Tell Mrs. Anderson, in the College and Career Center as soon as you receive a scholarship award, either from the college you will attend, or from a private organization.
