501COMMUNITY LAW ENFORCEMENT ACADEMY FOR YOUNG ADULTS GRADUATION was held on Tuesday, May 12, 4 p.m., in the Oxnard Union High School District Board Room. Congratulations to Roxana Arias, Jimmy Del Villar, Alejandra Arias Fernandez, Edson Legorreta, Jennifer Reyes, Javier Rios and Jennifer Rocha for completing the program!

502ADULT POST-SECONDARY PROGRAM   – Thirteen adult transition students have completed their college class at Ventura College this week.  They have been taking their class called “Access to Computers” the entire semester.  All have learned about digital responsibility and have worked with various computer programs, including presenting power point reports.  Congratulations to our college studentsConnie Westphal Brown, M.S., Department Chair

SCIENCEBiology – Ms. Blake’s biology classes used their smart phones as clickers in an interactive review game to prepare for their Ecology test.   Biology classes are beginning a unit on classification of species with the focus being on the variation within the animal kingdom.  Chemistry students just finished a unit on “Water”.  Students read articles related to the water crisis, researched the topic in the article, and gave presentations to the class.  Students learned how people use water, how water is stored and managed, and how climate change is changing the availability of water.  They also learned how increasing populations and decreasing water resources are impacting society.  Earth Science students will be starting a project based learning unit. Students will research a topic related to Earth Science, write a research paper on that topic and present their findings to the class on the day of their final.  Marine Bio students just finished dissections of shark and perch.  Evaluation of fishes unit will happen Friday.  Physics students finished up a unit on waves, including light and sound.  Ask them about paper cup telephones….they really work!  AP Bio students took the AP Biology test and they felt confidence!  All the students are doing a College and Career Unit where they look into future colleges, finances, scholarships, volunteer opportunities, summer programs, and letters of recommendation.  IB Chemistry students used electrolysis to copper plate quarters. SOCIAL SCIENCE – The advanced classes are right in the middle of testing.  IB Econ, AP Psychology and AP Euro just finished last week with IB History coming up at the end of this week and next Monday. Good luck everyone…Jeff Holloway, Social Science Department Chair

ASB/LINK CREW –   Juniors put on Prom last weekend and it was a huge success–Jimmy FitzGerald – Prom King and Avery Black – Prom Queen!   The PFO Safe and Sober After-Prom event had the highest attendance in the last 5 years.  Angela Perez won the big money – $1,000 from Steve Thomas BMWASB elections were held this week and the results will be made known on Tuesday, May 29.  Link Crew interviews are being held after school for those leaders who want to serve the school…Carl Melhorn, Activities Director, ASB/Link Crew Advisor
