MIGRANT EDUCATION AWARDS NIGHT
was held on Monday, June 1st in the cafeteria.   The event was well-attended by family and friends of students recognized.  Assistant principals and teachers were also in attendance.  A delicious dinner  was provided  for all,  and served by several members of the office staff.   The  Rio Mesa Mariachi and Baile Folklorico performed for the audience.  Several individuals were recognized for their contributions to the Rio Mesa Migrant program.   Students were honored for their accomplishments in the areas of service, speech competition and academics. The highlight of the evening was the recognition of graduating seniors and the powerful words they shared with their families and with Rio Mesa staff…Cuba Montero, Special Programs Counselor

702RIO MESA ADULT TRANSITION PROGRAM GRADUATION was held on June 2nd and it was a great success!  The Rio Mesa Adult Transition Program proudly celebrated eleven 2015 Graduates:         Connie Westphal Brown, M.S., Department Chair

704COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER – CAMARILLO NOONTIME OPTIMIST CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS – On Monday, June 1, four Rio Mesa High School students and two students from ACHS were honored at the scholarship meeting of the Camarillo Noontime Optimist Club.  Each student received a $1,000 college scholarship.  Honored were Samantha Bunker, Rose Cagliano, Mackenzie Fagan, and Bailey McKenna. The students gave a short speech about their activities while in high school and plans for their future.

Mary Pinto-Casillas, Oxnard College/Career and Technical Education faculty member  hosted a lunchtime table of information about the certificate and AA programs for training as a Business Information Worker.  She passed out brochures and answered questions about this course of classes in Microsoft Windows and Office,  as well as web literacy and business communications…Sally Anderson, Career Center Tech

SCIENCE – IB CHEM students presented Group 4 Projects in Material Science on Monday, June 1, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the library.

 

703CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATIONBaking and Pastry has finished the unit on Cakes and Icings by making decorated cakes. They had to use buttercream, fondant and royal icings in the design…Mary Wayne, Career and Technical Education Department Chair

ARTDigital Photography students are presenting their final portfolios in class, along with a musical accompaniment.  Visual Art students are starting their final project this week!  Gary Bowman, Department Chair
