What’s New?

CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT – The 2nd Annual Rio Mesa Cornhole Tournament will take place all next week during lunch.  Sign-ups will be this week in Room 3. The cost is $10 per team. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams will be awarded gift certificates to use at The Collection.  There is a 32 Team limit and up to $225 awarded to the winning team in gift certificates. Sign up today!

SUMMER SCHOOL ROSTERS – Rosters for summer school will be posted in front of the Cafeteria on Friday, June 2nd.

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS – The ASB Window will not be accepting checks as of May 31, 2017 until the end of the school year. Please be prepared to pay with cash, credit/debit cards or money orders. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

SENIORS – Seniors: Please plan on having your lockers cleaned of all books and trash by June 9, 2017. Furthermore, please give your lock to the ASB window no later than June 9, 2017.

JUNIORS, SOPHOMORES AND FRESHMEN – Please have your lockers cleaned of all books and trash by June 16, 2017. Please leave your lock on your locker, do not take it home. If a lock is not on your locker, it will be replaced with another, possibly given to another student and you will owe another $10 in September to get access to a locker.

GRAD NIGHT – Grad night bus sign-ups are Thursday, June 1st. Bring your whole group and sign up together. No, you may not sign up someone that’s not there. You will need to have your ID with you to get on the bus when busses are loaded.


VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – If anyone needs community service hours and wants to be a part of the football team, Coach Bittner is looking for people to film games and practices. Please see Coach Bittner to sign up.

GRADUATION HELP – IVY CHAIN – 11th grade girls are needed for Ivy Chain during graduation. Candidates MUST have good grades (3.5 or better) and good attendance. See Jack Rambadt, in the office, to volunteer. Ivy Chain volunteers will be offered VIP seating on the track for their own graduations next year.

GIRLS SOCCER – On June 6th, during lunch, there will be a meeting in room 62 for all girls Interested in playing soccer next year.  Tryouts, and summer schedule information, will be given out at that time.  Any questions, please contact Coach Rodriguez.

COMPUTER PROFICIENCT TEST – There is one last chance to take the computer proficiency test! The test will be offered after school on Wednesday, June 7. Sign up now with Ms. Ricards in the library.

ATHLETIC CLEARANCE PHYSICALS – RMHS Athletic clearances will take place on June 8th in the girls activity room & wrestling room. The cost for physicals is $20 (see attached flyer).

GIRLS BASKETBALL – Girls’ basketball tryouts for incoming freshmen are as follows: Saturday June 17th, 8:00 to 10:30 am and Monday through Thursday, June 19th through June 22nd, from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.

LOVE TO DANCE? – Do you love to dance? Looking for something FUN to do this summer? NEW!! We are offering a Dance Camp this summer! Explore many kinds of dance and improve your skills! Students will receive 2.5 elective credits and have fun this summer! See Ms. Scholler in PE or Mrs. McDevitt in the counseling office to sign up. Class runs July 5 – 28th from 9 am to 12 pm.

College & Career

COMMUNITY SERVICE – All students are invited to apply to be a volunteer teaching assistant in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math for a summer school program in Camarillo.  You would be assisting 3rd-5th grade students Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. between July 17 and August 4.  Pick up a flyer with information in the College and Career Center.

AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS – African-American students who are current 10th or 11th graders are invited to apply for a paid summer internship with the Pinkard Youth Institute.  Students would be assisting and learning at a workplace that matches their area of career interest, such as public safety, politics, civil service, etc.  The program runs for 6 weeks, from June 19 to July 28 and the student would receive a stipend of $100 per week.  Applications are available in the College and Career Center.

JUNIORS – Attention Juniors, Class of 2018! Do you want to apply to a UC, CSU or private university and NOT have a stressful senior year? RMHS EAOP is offering the College Ready Academy (CRA) in August! It’s free and you will complete your college applications, review for the ACT and SAT and begin your college essays with experts! If you are interested and want more information, please sign up with Counselor—Ms. Gomez. Spots are limited!

2017 SUMMER CAMPS AVAILABLE! JULY 5-JULY 28, MONDAY – FRIDAY. High school students of all grades are invited to enroll in one of our free countywide summer camps designed to introduce exciting career options in a variety of industries, offered through the Career Education Center/ROP Program. Each camp will specialize in a specific pathway in subjects as diverse as virtual reality, performing arts, health professions, and digital media. Each camp will feature field trips, guest speakers, and special hands-on projects designed to engage and inspire students in the fascinating details of each career option. High school credit is available. The summer camps will run from July 5- 28, Monday-Friday, at high school campuses across the county.  See your counselor for a list of classes and registration form, or visit: http://www.vcoe.org/career-education-center/summer-camps

CURRENT SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS – If you are interested in taking an ROP course next year, please see your counselor for a list of class choices available.   ROP courses prepare students for careers by providing experiences that are engaging and involve real life learning.  Classes are available day and evening and include careers across every industry sector.  Many new classes have been added, some include, Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement, Fire Science Careers, 21st Century Marketing and Sales, and Sport Entertainment and Marketing, to name a few.  See your counselor or Mrs. McDevitt today for the complete list and to sign up.  Courses are assigned as first-come first-served basis with limited room.

Ongoing Events

THE SUPPER PROGRAM! We will be serving free meals from 3:30 -5:00 pm in the cafeteria. Anyone in the community, 18-years and younger, may enter our campus and enjoy a meal. All meals must be consumed on the premises.

ATTENTION ALL SPARTANS – We are excited to let you know you are now able to buy tickets for home sporting events online prior to the game. Simply go to the following website: http://gofan.co/app/school/CA8023. Click on the game you want to support and then provide the payment information. Your ticket is then on your smart phone and can be redeemed at the door/gate. It’s that simple! Any questions, please see Miss Gina at the ASB window. Go Spartans!!
