WHAT’S NEW?

LASO CLUB:  Any students interested in leadership positions as an officer in the Latin American Student Organization (LASO Club) this year should attend a leadership meeting on Thursday, September 7 in Room 22 at 12:25 pm. Our first regular club meeting for all new and returning members will be held in Room 22 on Tuesday, September 12 at 12:25 pm. See you there!

YOUR WORK PERMIT HAS EXPIRED!!  If you were issued a work permit last school year, are continuing to work at that job, and haven’t seen Mrs. Anderson yet to get a new work permit, you are not allowed to continue in your job until you get a new permit.  See Mrs. Anderson, in the College and Career Center, TODAY!

SENIORS AND JUNIORS:  The SEPTEMBER SCHOLARSHIP LIST is now available in the College and Career Center.  Each month plan to pick up your copy of the monthly scholarship list.  Each scholarship you earn helps pay for your education beyond high school, at a 4 year or 2-year college or institute.  Take advantage of this way to earn free money for college.

AIR FORCE REPRESENTATIVE:  The U.S. Air Force Recruiter will have a table of information outside the College and Career Center TODAY during the lunch period.  Stop by and ask about enlistment in the U.S. Air Force.

OUHSD Pre-Engineering Program is now accepting applications for their Fall Program. If you are a SENIOR or a JUNIOR and have a strong interest in engineering, please see Mrs. Anderson in the College and Career Center or Mrs. McDevitt in the counseling office for an application.  The classes are held on Tuesday afternoons from 3:15-5:30pm at the Port Hueneme Division Naval Surface Warfare Center.  Selected students will have the chance to work with engineers and have hands-on experiences to explore the fields of electronic and mechanical engineering.  Students must be able to provide their own transportation to and from.  Applications are due Tuesday, September 12th by 3:30 pm, no exceptions.  There are only 2 spots available.  Class begins Tuesday, September 19, 2017.

JUNIORS AND SENIORS: Our district is providing an amazing opportunity to learn more about global trade and logistics at the Port of Hueneme.  If you are interested in a hands-on learning experience that will introduce you to the diversity of employment and operations of the Port of Hueneme, there is an after school opportunity available for you called Global Trade and Logistics Program”.

 Students accepted into the program will hear from speakers in the Fresh Produce Industry, Automobile Transportation, Shipping and Logistics, to name a few, and what it takes to run such a Port and Shipping Lines. Be sure to take advantage of this program if you are interested in these fields, or if you are not sure what career path to pursue.

Unfortunately, transportation is not provided, but If you can provide your own transportation one day a week (on Tuesdays 3:30-5:00pm), and are interested in this great opportunity, please see Mrs. Anderson in the College and Career Center or Mrs. McDevitt in the counseling office for an application.  Applications are due on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. ATTENTION 12TH GRADERS: Do you need an ACT and/or SAT fee waiver? Please see Ms. Montero in the Counseling Office during nutrition, lunch or after school only starting on Tues, Sept 5th.

ATTENTION SPARTANS: The last day to turn in a program change form to the counselors is Tues, Sept 12th.

REMINDERS…

URGENT!! – WORK PERMITS:  ALL students who received a Work Permit during the 2016-2017 school year, including the summer break, need to apply for a NEW WORK PERMIT if they are continuing to work in that same job THIS school year.  ALL work permits issued last school year (including summer) will EXPIRE on 9/6/2017.  See Mrs. Anderson in the College and Career Center for a work permit application.

MILITARY SERVICE ACADEMY INFORMATION NIGHTS:  Students, of ALL grade levels, are invited to hear information about applying to a military academy for college.  A student can graduate from an academy with a Bachelor’s degree and a commission as an officer in any branch of the U. S. Military.  Come to this once-a-year presentation by representatives from each Military Academy.  Two presentations are being held locally:  Pacifica High School (Cafeteria) on Sept.  12, or Adolfo Camarillo High School (Library) on Sept. 27, 2017.  Each event begins at 6 pm.  Pick up a flyer with information in the College and Career Center.

SENIORS The Community Law Enforcement Program after school program is now accepting applications for their FALL academy.  If you are interested in a career in law enforcement, emergency services, security, or forensic science, this is a perfect opportunity for you! This opportunity is only available for 5 seniors and is with a partnership with the Oxnard Police Department. You must be a Senior on track for graduation, have at least a 2.0 GPA, and have excellent attendance.

Classes will be held at Pacifica High School on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm-6pm, for 12 weeks, including some Saturdays (2).  Students are required to provide their own transportation.

Students are selected through an application process and only 5 spots are available.  If you are interested in applying, please see Mrs. Andersen in the College and Career center or Mrs. McDevitt in the counseling office for an application.  Applications are due Monday, September 25, 2017 by 3:30 pm.

JUNIORS / SENIORS – If you have a job, you can get up to 10 credits  each semester for working at that job and enrolling in the once a week WORK EXPERIENCE class. Come see Ms. Wayne in Room 20 for details. Classes will begin on Wednesday September 13 – but it is important to sign up early to make sure you get into the class.

ATTENTION 11TH AND 12TH GRADERS: Attention 11th and 12th graders: Do you have good grades, are ahead in credits and a model Spartan? We need office aides and teacher aides! Please come to the office to fill out the application and turn in to your counselor.

INTERESTED IN WRESTLING? Any boy or girl interested in wrestling, please see Coach Flores or Coach Gregorchuk as soon as possible.  You must enroll in period 6 wrestling.
