SPARTAN NEWS

WHAT’S NEW?

2017/2018 YEARBOOKS: This year we are only selling preordered yearbooks, therefore you cannot buy it after the deadline. Buy your yearbook by March 1st.  Yearbooks are $85.00 with an ASB card or $95 without. After October 31st, the yearbook will cost $100. To buy your yearbook today, see Ms. Erickson in the ASB office. Fundraiser coming up soon to lower the price of the yearbook.

SENIORS: Senior siblings and inseparable senior signs ups are on September 27th and 28th in the quad at lunch.

SENIORS: Senior quotes are due October 27th, you will get the handout in 3rd period.

LOST & FOUND ITEMS: The office has a box with many lost and found items in it. If you’ve lost any articles of clothing, backpacks, lunch bags, amongst other things, please come claim them.

SPIRIT WEEK NEXT WEEK! Spirit Week is next week, September 19…

  • Tuesday is twister day…wear your clothes backwards
  • Wednesday is which witch is which…twin day
  • Thursday is Lions, Tigers & Bears oh my…wear animal print or dress like one of those animals
  • Friday is class color day: Seniors in green; Juniors in blue; sophomores in red and freshmen in yellow

Friday, September 22 will be Rally Day and ASB will be putting on the Homecoming Rally during 4th Periods.

ID CARDS: If you have not picked up your ID card at the ASB window please do so, there are many Sophomore IDs still unclaimed as well as Juniors and some Seniors. If you just took your picture last week, please note those IDs will not be at the ASB window for a few more weeks. There will be an announcement made when they arrive. If you did not take a picture last April or last week, you have one last chance next Thursday, September 21st, to do so. Pictures take place in the wrestling room behind the gym before school and during nutrition and lunch.

LOCKERS: As many have already witnessed the locker situation has been a mess! I apologize for the inconvenience it has caused many of you! I know it has been frustrating and disappointing to a great number of you, and would like to thank those of you that have been understanding and accepting of the situation I am in at this time. I am doing the best I can to right a wrong I did not create. Your patience and understanding is appreciated and has not gone unnoticed. Spartans are the Best! Thanks again!

ATTENTION 11TH AND 12TH GRADERS: Do you need to take the Computer Literacy test? Please go see the librarian, Ms. Richards, for more information and to sign up.

ELD TUTORING: ELD tutoring begins Monday, September 18th, after school in the library, with Mr. Erick Gonzalez.

Clubs & Athletics

DRAMA CLUB: The Drama Club is having auditions for Horror Movie 101 this Thursday and Friday at nutrition, lunch and after school in room 56. * Have a 1 minute monologue prepared*

INTERESTED IN WRESTLING? Any boy or girl interested in wrestling, please see Coach Flores or Coach Gregorchuk as soon as possible.  You must enroll in period 6 wrestling.

College & Career

ATTENTION SPARTANS: Are you a member of a Native American tribe or have a certificate? You may qualify for Ventura County Indian Education Consortium services. Please see Ms. Montero for the application and more information.

ATTENTION SENIORS: Signups for workshops are starting now! RMHS offers UC application workshops, CSU applications workshops, Common Application workshops and SAT Prep workshops! Please see the EAOP Counselor, Karen Correa, in Rm 34.

ALL STUDENTS are invited to a Christian College Fair.  Many of the top Christian colleges and universities in North America will be represented at a Christian College Fair to be held at Bishop Garcia Diego High School on Monday, September 25th from 6 pm to 8 pm.  The fair will include a financial aid workshop and families are encouraged to attend.  The Bishop Garcia Diego High School is located at 4000 La Colina Road, Santa Barbara.  For more information, go to www.christiancollegefairs.com.  Pick up a flyer in the RMHS College and Career Center.

WORK EXPERIENCE CLASS: Today is the first day of Work Experience in Room 20. Class will meet on Wednesdays during zero period OR at lunch. Students can sign up with Ms. Wayne.

JUNIORS AND SENIORS: If you are interested in the field of athletic training or sports medicine and want to take a hands-on course in the basic concepts involved in the use of training equipment and materials, including bracing and taping athletic injuries, please fill out a program change form and submit it to the front office indicating you want to ADD the ROP Athletic Training class.  This is a Hybrid course and involves the availability to do onsite work at school athletic events.  Online work is required along with hours on the field assisting an athletic trainer.  Class will start soon and meets one day a week!  Sign up today!

MILITARY SERVICE ACADEMY INFORMATION NIGHTS:  Students, of ALL grade levels, are invited to hear information about applying to a military academy for college.  A student can graduate from an academy with a Bachelor’s degree and a commission as an officer in any branch of the U. S. Military.  Come to this once-a-year presentation by representatives from each Military Academy.  A presentation is being held locally at Adolfo Camarillo High School (Library) on Sept. 27, 2017.  The event begins at 6 pm.  Pick up a flyer with information in the College and Career Center.

SENIORS The Community Law Enforcement Program after school program is now accepting applications for their FALL academy.  If you are interested in a career in law enforcement, emergency services, security, or forensic science, this is a perfect opportunity for you! This opportunity is only available for 5 seniors and is with a partnership with the Oxnard Police Department. You must be a Senior on track for graduation, have at least a 2.0 GPA, and have excellent attendance.

Classes will be held at Pacifica High School on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm-6pm, for 12 weeks, including some Saturdays (2).  Students are required to provide their own transportation.

Students are selected through an application process and only 5 spots are available.  If you are interested in applying, please see Mrs. Andersen in the College and Career center or Mrs. McDevitt in the counseling office for an application.  Applications are due Monday, September 25, 2017 by 3:30 pm.

ATTENTION 11TH AND 12TH GRADERS: Attention 11th and 12th graders: Do you have good grades, are ahead in credits and a model Spartan? We need office aides and teacher aides! Please come to the office to fill out the application and turn in to your counselor.

YOUR WORK PERMIT HAS EXPIRED!!  If you were issued a work permit last school year, are continuing to work at that job, and haven’t seen Mrs. Anderson yet to get a new work permit, you are not allowed to continue in your job until you get a new permit.  See Mrs. Anderson, in the College and Career Center, TODAY!

SENIORS AND JUNIORS:  The SEPTEMBER SCHOLARSHIP LIST is now available in the College and Career Center.  Each month plan to pick up your copy of the monthly scholarship list.  Each scholarship you earn helps pay for your education beyond high school, at a 4 year or 2-year college or institute.  Take advantage of this way to earn free money for college.

ATTENTION 12TH GRADERS: Do you need an ACT and/or SAT fee waiver? Please see Ms. Montero in the Counseling Office during nutrition, lunch or after school only starting on Tues, Sept 5th.

Ongoing Events

LATE BUS: The late bus will begin taking students home starting on Monday, September 11th.  The bus will run Monday-Thursday and depart from the front of RMHS @ 4:35 pm.  Flyers are available in the front office.
