SAT ACADEMY: The SAT Academy starts this week October 19th and 21st and will continue next week October 23 and 24, after school, 3:15 – 4:15 pm in Room 34. NO SIGN UP REQUIRED.
GIRLS SOCCER: Girls soccer tryouts will be held on Oct. 30 – Nov. 3 from 3:15 pm to about 5:00 pm. Please make sure you have created an account on www.athleticclearance.com and have uploaded your physical to that account prior to tryouts. All students must be athletically cleared in order to tryout and participate in sports.
U.S. MARINES: Talk with the recruiter about opportunities available to you through enlistment in the U.S. Marines. There will be a table of information outside the College and Career Center on Thursday, October 19, during the lunch period.
COMMUNITY COLLEGE APPLICATION WORKSHOP: A representative from Ventura College will help students with their community college applications on Monday, October 23, during the lunch period in room 34.
SPARTAN Students, faculty and staff: The Latin American Student Organization (LASO) is hosting its second annual Dia de los Muertos cultural celebration from 6-8pm on Friday, November 3. Please join us to celebrate and remember our loved ones who have passed away. There will be music, dancers, activities for kids, student art and projects, vendors, and a taquero. If you’re interested in helping LASO club prepare, please come by Room 22 at lunch or after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Last year was fun. Let’s make this year even better. Gracias!

IB TEST TAKERS: IB test takers, Please Do Not Wait until the last minute to pay and sign up for your IB tests. If you wait and end up in a long line during your nutrition or lunch time, that is your choice and you will be sent to class at the bell if you are still in line and not at the window.
ID CARDS: All Students please come pick up your ID card at the ASB window. They do not cost, they are free of charge. All Spartans are to have their ID card on them while on campus. If you missed all picture dates you will not have an ID card to pick up. There will be an announcement in the next few weeks when those of you who need a picture taken can come to the ASB window to take a picture and get an ID card at that time.
STUDENTS: Please return your Overdue Text and Library Books NOW! Not sure if you owe? The Textbook Room is open at 7:30 daily. Stop by and see Mrs. Petti to make sure your book record is clear!
2017/2018 YEARBOOKS: This year we are only selling preordered yearbooks, therefore you cannot buy it after the deadline. Buy your yearbook by March 1st. Yearbooks are $85.00 with an ASB card or $95 without. After October 31st, the yearbook will cost $100. To buy your yearbook today, see Ms. Erickson in the ASB office. Fundraiser coming up soon to lower the price of the yearbook.

ONE PEOPLE CLUB: The One People Club needs you!! Do you want to build your self-esteem? Feel better about yourself? Then join our club. We help those who cannot help themselves. We promise that you will feel better. Please stop by room 44 to sign up.
CORNHOLE CLUB: Rio Mesa’s Cornhole Baggers Club meets every Friday at 12:30 in Room 3. Cornhole Kick Off Tournament is November 1st during lunch.
TEQUIO CLUB: The Tequio Club will meet every Tuesday at lunch in room 80A. Come to learn about indigenous cultures and/or share your heritage! All are welcomed.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE: The International Baccalaureate test registration for May exams is taking place now through November 7. Registration ends on Tuesday, November 7. Please turn in your registration materials along with payment to Mrs. Erickson at the ASB window.
Students who qualify for assistance must bring the qualifying letter or email they received from the school district to Mrs. Montero, the IB counselor. She will provide a verification form that MUST be attached to a student’s IB test registration materials. This must be completed BEFORE visiting Mrs. Erickson.

ALL GRADES – African American male and female students. The Ascend Program will offer students the opportunity to receive academic enrichment and life skills training leading to meaningful employment and careers. These goals will be met via college prep workshops, promotion of positive self-esteem, study and test prep skills, cultural awareness and community engagement. The application is available in the College and Career Center and must be mailed by October 20th. This is a great program with people who CARE about your success!

FARM TO SCHOOL: The Farm to School Program has a Twitter page and we urge you to follow them at https://twitter.com/OUHSDfreshfood. The Twitter account will be sharing information about the school menu, SNAC Clubs, school garden, and districtwide farm to school activities.
MORE COLLEGE VISITS: A NEW list of college representatives coming to Rio Mesa is now available. Pick up this list, dated 9/25/17, that lists application workshops, community college visitors, and more visits from four-year college representatives. Come to the College and Career Center to pick up your list.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Earn Community Service hours by helping the VC Arts Council prepare for the Dia De Los Muertos celebration taking place at the Pacific View Mall. Help is needed NOW to create decorations, participate in music, and create poems for the dearly departed. The celebration will be November 5TH. Pick up a flyer with information in the College and Career Center.
NEW WORK EXPERIENCE class options have opened up for JUNIORS or SENIORS – If you have a job, you can get up to 10 credits each semester for the hours you work at that job. New times are now available for this once a week class: Class will meet on Wednesdays during zero period OR Wednesdays at lunch. OR Monday’s Afterschool See Ms. Wayne in Room 20 to sign up and ask questions TODAY if you have a job or think you will be working by September 30th.

VENDING MACHINES: Vending machines: We are aware that the vending machines are not being stocked on a regular basis and very often take your money, however please realize, this is not a Rio Mesa responsibility, it is an off-campus company. We are in touch with them regularly to resolve issues as soon as possible, this does not always happen quickly. Please be patient with this situation.
LATE BUS: The late bus will begin taking students home starting on Monday, September 11th. The bus will run Monday-Thursday and depart from the front of RMHS @ 4:35 pm. Flyers are available in the front office.
LOST & FOUND ITEMS: The office has a box with many lost and found items in it. If you’ve lost any articles of clothing, backpacks, lunch bags, amongst other things, please come claim them.
REWARD! One of our fellow Spartans lost a gold, two-tone, cuff bracelet. If found, please return it to the office.
SUPPER PROGRAM: We are now serving our SUPPER program from 3-5pm every day. ANYONE from the community, 18-years and younger, may participate in this program. Please note: On minimum days, we offer the supper program after school from 12:18-12:45 only.
