HEAD COACH: CHRIS HOLDSWORTH
Coach Chris Holdsworth is in his second year as head coach of the Girls’ & Boy’s Varsity team here at Rio Mesa. He previously was the head coach of the Freshmen team for both the Girls’ and Boys’ programs. He has also coached for Fresh start and Pacific View Volleyball Clubs. Born and raised here in Oxnard, CA Coach Holdsworth played three years on the varsity team at Oxnard High School, reaching the CIF Semi-Finals his senior year. After graduating in 2004, he attended the University of Hawaii to study History. After a year in Hawaii, he transferred to Santa Barbara City College in 2005 where he became a member of the Men’s Volleyball program. Taking a break from the game after the 05-06 season he graduated from CSUN in 2009 with a BA in History. In 2011 he earned his teaching credential in Social Science and Physical Education from Cal Lutheran University. He is currently working on his Master’s in Education at Cal Lutheran University. He hopes to soon become a full time teacher here at Rio Mesa.
Since being named head coach in 2014 the Girls’ volleyball team has posted a 12-4 league record and finished second in 2014. In the same time the Boys’ volleyball team has a 16-2 league record and they have won back to back Pacific View League championships, only the 2nd and 3rd in school history. In 2014 the boys reached the CIF Southern Section Division 3 Quarter-Finals, which matched the best finish in school history.

2017 Girls Volleyball Tryouts for new players and freshmen will be held on July 31-August 2 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Rio Mesa High School Athletic Clearance process is now online. Please go to https://www.athleticclearance.com/and create a profile account for every sport your student wants to participate in. You must complete steps 1-4 and upload a current sports physical and complete the transportation form and turn it into Lauri Scott in the main office. This must be done in order for students to tryout, practice or participate in athletics.
