ALL STUDENTS are invited to a presentation at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles to learn about the admission process to 5 highly-selective universities:  Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Rice University and the University of Chicago.  The event is Sunday, April 29 at 2 p.m. RSVP at exploringeducationalexcellence.org.  Pick up a flyer in the College and Career Center.


JUNIORS AND SENIORS: SAMO youth job applications deadline extended to Friday, April 20. The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area is accepting applications for a full-time summer job that begins June 19 and ends August 11.  The program is called SAMO YOUTH and is available to current Junior and Senior students who have a minimum 2.0 GPA, and a Social Security card.  Knowledge of a second language is preferred.  The work is outdoors, requiring physical labor.  Transportation is provided between Oxnard and the work site.  The employer is looking for applicants who are NOT familiar with National Parks and would like to learn about them by working in a National Park.  Applications are available in the College and Career Center.
ALL STUDENTS AND THEIR PARENTS are invited to a Student Town Hall Meeting on Gun Safety, hosted by Congresswoman Julia Brownley, on Saturday, April 21, in Camarillo.  The meeting will concentrate on students’ stories and questions.  Students need to bring their school ID and have a release form signed by a parent or guardian.  Interested students need to RSVP online at JuliaBrownley.House.gov/Events.

  • Anyone interested in running for class officers for the fall need to come and get the petition from Melhorn in Room 58 to file.  Petitions are due on April 30 and elections will be held on May 3 & 4 at lunch on the stage.
  • Remember that the deadline for Grad Night tickets is April 20.
  • Prom guest passes are due on Thursday, April 19.

SPARTAN GARAGE SALE – The RMHS Music Boosters are hosting a Spartan Garage Sale on Saturday, April 21st, from 7 am to 12 pm in the front parking lot on Central Avenue. Come support your Spartan Marching Band and check out all the great stuff we’ll have for sale.
SAFE & SOBER AFTER PROM PARTY:  After Prom has moved back to the Roxy Theater in Camarillo. It will be held on April 28th from 12:00-5:00 am. Tickets are only $10, or free with the purchase of your Prom ticket. Admission includes a Rio Mesa Spartan trucker hat, food, a hypnotist, movies, a DJ and karaoke, a photo booth, candy bar and temporary tattoos! Also, LOTS of great prizes will be raffled, including CASH prizes, a flat screen TV, and MORE!
SPARTAN SHOWDOWN: The Spartan Showdown secret word of the week is: “MOTIVATION”.
SPARTAN SHOWDOWN UPDATE: The white team has broken the 1,000-point barrier and is in the lead. Black and red are lagging behind but they can still catch up. This is a whole school game, and everyone has a team! To find out which team you were drafted to, and to earn points for your team, look for the QR codes or bit.ly on purple and orange papers posted around school. Also, listen for the secret word of the week to earn extra points for your team. Let the games begin!”
DANCE AUDITIONS: Advanced dance auditions for next year are going to be Tuesday, April 17th and Wednesday, April 18th from 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm in the dance room.  Please see Ms. Scholler for more information.
GRAD NIGHT: Deadline to buy Grad Night tickets is April 20th, no exceptions.  There are currently 100 spots available to attend Grad Night on Friday, June 8th.
PROM: Prom Tickets are now on sale.  Don’t miss out since the Fire Marshall will only let us sell 600 tickets.  The theme is “A Night of Enchantment.” Prom will be held on April 28th.
LINK CREW: Link Crew applications for 2018-19 will be coming out after Spring Break.  Get your app from Melhorn in Room 58.
SENIORS…The year is quickly coming to an end! If you have lost text or library books, you will NOT be allowed to buy your yearbook, attend prom, grad nite, or receive your diploma! IF YOU OWE…YOU WON’T GO! Notices will be mailed to your parents. TAKE CARE OF BOOK BUSINESS NOW! DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO RETURN OR PAY FOR LOST BOOKS!!! Please see Mrs. Petti in the Book Room. She is open at 7:30 a.m. to assist you.
SENIORS: Grad Night tickets are now on sale…you will need to get a field trip permission form from Miss Gina in the ASB office before you can buy your ticket.

Clubs & Athletics

CHESS CLUB: If anyone would like to join, the chess club meets in room 48 at lunch on Wednesdays and Fridays.
CORNHOLE CLUB: Rio Mesa’s Cornhole Baggers Club meets every Thursday at 12:30 in Room 3.
FAITH HOPE LOVE CLUB: The faith hope love club meets Wednesdays at lunch in room 73.
LASO CLUB: New and current LASO Club members: The Latin American Student Organization meetings days have changed from Tuesdays to Wednesdays. We meet in Room 22 at 12:25. All students are welcome. See you there! Gracias!
TEQUIO CLUB: The Tequio Club meets every Tuesday at lunch in room 80A. Come to learn about indigenous cultures and/or share your heritage! All are welcomed.

College & Career

SENIORS:  Priority Registration for classes at Ventura, Oxnard, and Moorpark College’s begins on April 23!!!  To get priority registration you must have completed the five application steps, 1) submit online application, 2) set up your MyVCCCD portal, 3) Completed online Orientation, 4) submitted a transcript for Assessment, and 5) completed a group counseling session at the college.  Don’t delay, take care of this process TODAY.  Without priority registration you might not get the classes you want.
JOB OPPORTUNITY:   Merlin Medical Supply Pharmacy, in Camarillo, is looking for a motivated, fast learner, hard worker to help, part-time, at this medical supply retail store.  Job entails scanning medical documents, shipping medical products and assisting customers.  Employer will train and hopes student will go to college locally so he/she can continue to work at this store.  Starting pay is $10.50 per hour.  Pick up a flyer with information in the College and Career Center.
SENIORS:  Many scholarship deadlines are coming soon.  Check the April Scholarship List and submit applications well BEFORE the stated deadlines.

JUNIORS AND SENIORS:  Would you like to learn more about the election process?  Apply for a position as a Student Poll Worker, for the Gubernatorial Primary election on June 5.  You will be paid for training and working the entire day of elections.  You must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, be at least 16 years old, a U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident, and have a teacher sign your application.  Pick up information and an application in the College and Career Center.
RAZA COLLEGE DAY: Students and Parents are invited to attend an all-day conference at UCSB called “RAZA College Day” on Saturday, April 21. Transportation, food, workshops and entertainment will be provided.   Students can go to this website to register http://elcongresodeucsb.weebly.com.  See Karen Correa, in room 34, for information.

JOB OPPORTUNITY:  The California State Parks system is hiring part-time, seasonal workers at Leo Carrillo State Park, Malibu Creek State Park, and Point Mugu State Park.  Applicant must be 16 years of age and will be required to buy a uniform for the approximate cost of $150.  Starting pay is $11 per hour.  Pick up a flyer of information and an application in the College and Career Center.
MESA: Attention students with an interest in STEM: You are invited to join the weekly MESA (Math Engineering Science Achievement) meetings in Room 30 on Wednesdays at lunch. Our club aims to shape scientific minds by introducing hands on experience with science projects and activities to nurture and strengthen your interests.
ATTENTION SPARTANS: Are you a member of a Native American tribe or have a certificate? You may qualify for Ventura County Indian Education Consortium services. Please see Ms. Montero for the application and more information.

Ongoing Events

LATE BUS: The late bus runs Monday-Thursday and departs from the front of RMHS @ 4:35 pm.  Flyers are available in the front office.
LOST & FOUND ITEMS: The office has a box with many lost and found items in it. If you’ve lost any articles of clothing, backpacks, lunch bags, amongst other things, please come claim them.
SUPPER PROGRAM: We are now serving our SUPPER program from 3-5pm every day. ANYONE from the community, 18-years and younger, may participate in this program. Please note: On minimum days, we offer the supper program after school from 12:18-12:45 only.
