WHAT’S NEW?                                                                                 

JUNIORS AND SENIORS: Are you interested in nature and the environment? here is your opportunity to work outdoors and be a part of a youth crew! Work on plant & habitat restoration, trail maintenance and community engagement! Job description: Full-Time summer position (8 weeks), $15.00/hr, Work days & hours: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm, Start date: June 11, End Date: August 14. Job requirements: Open to current high school juniors & seniors, must be a US citizen or permanent resident, social security card, 2.0 GPA minimum, knowledge of a second language preferred, required to wear uniform & work with park visitors to help lead public programs (June 8)

  2. One letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor

What’s Happening?

MESA S&T: Congratulations to Blossom Loera, Dylan Zulueta, Jesus Gonzalez, Julianna De Jesus, John Emmerich,  Alexzander Shrauger, Antonio Banuelos, Brian Viramontes, Christopher Magana, Dario Gomez, Gerardo Ramirez, Jewelle Tatad, Lizbeth Martinez, Luz Torralba, Malaya Aspuria, Rafael Galeana, Anna Le, Anthony Aguilar, Dillan Rojas, and Jazmin Guajardo for participating in UCSB MESA S&T Day this past Saturday as they engaged in STEM competitions, workshops, and activities. Special shout out to Jesus Gonzalez & John Emmerich for placing 1st in Coding Solutions, Antonio (Junior) Banuelos  Anthony Aguilar for placing 2nd in Math Escape, and Jewelle Tatad & Malaya Aspuria for placing 1st in MESA Think Tank.  Good luck, Jewelle and Malaya at Regionals on April 4th!

SENIORS: Grad nite tickets are on sale at the ASB window, however you must fill out a field trip authorization form with Parents’ signatures prior to purchasing your ticket. If you plan on attending both Grad Nites you will need two separate field trip forms. Please be advised, Rio Mesa has a NO Refunds Policy for Grad Nite purchases, NO Exceptions. Any questions please stop by the ASB window. (Exp. June)  

ATTENTION SENIORS: If you have unverified absences, please see Mrs. Ramirez in the attendance advisor’s office to resolve them. Grad-Night tickets will be on sale soon, but you will NOT be allowed to purchase a ticket if you do not meet attendance requirements. (Exp. June)

Clubs / Athletics

EVENT STAFF CLUB: Get involved on campus! Join Event Staff to volunteer at home sporting events and other school activities. Come see Mr. Holdsworth in room 24 for information. Events are updated every Monday. (No Exp.)

MIGRANT EDUCATION PROGRAM AND ELD STUDENTS: Do you need help with homework? After School Tutoring is available on Tuesday and Thursday in the library from 3:15pm to 4:15pm with Ms. Gonzalez. (No Exp.)

College & Career

HIGHER EDUCATION WEEK (HEW) FOR JUNIORS: Juniors are all invited to the Gym on Friday, March 6, 2020 during 3rd period for Higher Education Weeks. Representatives from colleges and universities will be available to answer any of your questions. This is a great opportunity to start your college and university research. (Expire March 6)

CAREER EXPO: Expo OUHSD is hosting it’s 35th annual Career Expo on Friday, March 20th from 8:30am to 12:30pm. Juniors and Seniors are invited to meet and network with professionals from various fields! This is an opportunity to ask the professionals about their career path, the education, and other requirements needed in their chosen profession. If you are interested in attending please see Ms. Magaña in the College and Career Center. Space is limited. (Exp. March 20) 

SCHOLARSHIPS: Spartans please be sure to check out the monthly scholarship list that can now be found on the Rio Mesa website AND in the college and career center’s google classroom! Seniors, the RMSF scholarship is now available and is due on March 23rd. Please be sure to pay close attention to deadlines and apply, apply, apply! Google Classroom code: stta7wd (Exp. March 23)

EMMA NYLEN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Approximately 20-50 scholarships are provided through the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Ventura Emma Nylen Trust Fund every year. Amounts awarded may vary from $100-$1,000. In order to be considered, you must have a GPA of at least 2.0 or higher, and either currently be or have been in the past, a resident of Ventura County. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Do you need volunteer hours? The Reel Guppy Outdoors is now looking for volunteers to help at their Boat Burger Throwdown that is taking place on May 1st. This is an opportunity to make a difference in the community while creating fun, lasting memories for children and families! Some of the duties include helping set up, knot tying, breaking down set up and assisting families with other needs. Knowledge of fishing isn’t necessary but is appreciated. DREAM IT BE IT PROGRAM: The Dream It, Be It program can help you plan your future! When you participate in this program you will learn about setting and achieving goals, choosing careers and identifying alternatives to obstacles to ensure success, and how to move forward when things don’t go as planned. Females in the 9th grade are encouraged to join us for a day of learning and fun! Breakfast and lunch will be provided. SENIORS: If you would like to get a fee waiver for the ACT, please see Ms Montero in the Counseling Office during nutrition, lunch or after school. If you could like a fee waiver for the SAT and did NOT get one last year, please see Ms Montero in the Counseling Office during nutrition, lunch or after school. If you already took the SAT with a fee waiver last year, you get your fee waivers for 2019-2020 from your online College Board account. (No Exp.)

OXNARD COLLEGE STEM SUMMER PROGRAM: Oxnard College invites you to be a part of a STEM summer experience you will never forget! INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Bank of America is looking for the next generation of community leaders. If you are a junior or senior in high school and are working to make a difference in your school or community, we want to support you.
