Astronomy Club

Last weekend the Hiking Club and Astronomy Club joined together for an “urban hike” from the Ventura Pier at sunset to Serra Cross for stargazing. It was a great experience and another way to encourage healthy habits.  Healthy teens = healthy adults!

Speech & Debate

This Saturday, March 7th, Senior Dillan Hernandez is representing RMHS Migrant Education Program at the Speech & Debate Regional Tournament at Oxnard College. 

Culinary

Rio Mesa CCAP students Veronike Liza and Angel Romero competed as juniors in the CCAP Preliminary Competition at the international Culinary Center in Pasadena.

UCSB MESA S&T Day

Congratulations to Blossom Loera, Dylan Zulueta, Jesus Gonzalez, Julianna De Jesus, John Emmerich,  Alexzander Shrauger, Antonio Banuelos, Brian Viramontes, Christopher Magana, Dario Gomez, Gerardo Ramirez, Jewelle Tatad, Lizbeth Martinez, Luz Torralba, Malaya Aspuria, Rafael Galeana, Anna Le, Anthony Aguilar, Dillan Rojas, and Jazmin Guajardo for participating in UCSB MESA S&T Day on Saturday 2/29 as they engaged in STEM competitions, workshops, and activities. Special shout out to Jesus Gonzalez & John Emmerich for placing 1st in Coding Solutions, Antonio (Junior) Banuelos  Anthony Aguilar for placing 2nd in Math Escape, and Jewelle Tatad & Malaya Aspuria for placing 1st in MESA Think Tank.  Good luck, Jewelle and Malaya at Regionals on April 4th!

SAT Bootcamp

Very proud of the approximately 125 RM 11th graders that have committed to the SAT Bootcamp in preparation for the March 25th SAT! Big thanks to 4 of RMs best teachers who are giving up their Saturdays to teach & Dr. Gil for recruitment & organization. WE>me!

Drama Club

After weeks of preparation the Rio Mesa Drama Club has started previews of their performances of Mirror of Most Value: A Ms. Marvel Play and Hammered: A Thor and Loki Play both of which are being billed as a double feature. Mirror is about a young superhero trying to balance her new superhero life while dealing with high school life. Hammered is about two brothers trying to deal with each other for the greater good. 
The plays open Today, Friday, March 6th and Run trough Saturday March 7th.

So proud of RM Senior Kayla Ross! This Saturday she was crowned 2020 Onyx Club Debutante Queen. She is ASB Sr Class President, President of our BSU, & most importantly a leader among peers who helped me & our school through a difficult situation with a calming intellect! WE>me!

STAFF NEWS

Parent Workshops

RMHS parents have been attending the Parent Workshops facilitated by New Dawn Counseling and RM Student Intervention Specialist, Rafael Cahue.  The 5-class program is provided in Spanish and covers various topics including: stress, anxiety, depression, bullying, and substance abuse. With the help of RM Parent Facilitator, Claudia Gonzalez, parents are also receiving one-on-one support with connecting to Parentsquare and Parentvue.
