STUDENT NEWS

Higher Education Week

So cool that a number of institutions of higher learning came to visit RM recently (Higher Ed Week) to give our 11th graders that reminder that ALL of them are capable of successful learning beyond high school in colleges, universities & trade programs! Spartans Elevate – WE>me!

ASB

Academic Honor Roll certificates were handed out this week.  Academic Assembly postponed until Friday May 8th .Disney will not refund tickets if Covid-19 is still around and spreading, so “buyer beware” type of policy. High School Nation will be on Monday, April 20th

Culinary Arts

Culinary Arts students Veronike Loza, Juliana Castro and Savannah Ames participated in the Ventura Ag Week Farm to Chef event held at Heritage Square. They were able to assist professionals in both prep and serving food. They were able to ask questions and interact with a variety of chefs. 

Science Olympiad

Congratulations to 18 students that received medals in 9 events. Very proud of these students.

Such hardworking Spartans fully engaged in SAT Prep class last Saturday (3rd session) with Ms. Kim, then a special class for those competing in Science Olympiad with Ms. Brennan! Such dedicated students getting ready to rock the SAT! Spartans Elevate – Together We Rise! WE>me!

STAFF NEWS

So proud of RM Teacher Martha Jimenez-Ito -named among Camarillo Acorn’s Top 10 community members of 2019-20. She put in countless hours & networked to start/maintain Rio Mesa’s Caring Closet which has already helped numerous disadvantaged students. WE>me!

COUNSELOR NEWS

This week, the RMHS counseling team has been visiting all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade English classrooms to talk to students about registration for the 2020-2021 school year. One-one-one meetings with each student will take place beginning March 23rd, after students have a chance to attend the elective fair, and speak with their parents & teachers about which classes to take next year.

The RMHS Elective Fair took place this week. Many teachers came out to promote their classes and inform students about their choices for their classes for 2020-2021. Thank you to everyone who participated.

College and Career Center

On Friday, March 6th 70 of our seniors participated in Pirate Friday at Ventura College where they had the opportunity to listen to a student panel, get a tour of campus and learn about resources and clubs offered on campus! Any senior student who did not have the opportunity to participate can stop by the college and career center for assistance with portal setup, online orientation, and with help setting up an appointment with a counselor.   
There will also be a trip to Oxnard College on Friday, April 3rd for those seniors who plan to attend Oxnard College in the Fall of 2020. Please see Ms. Magaña for a permission slip form. 

ATHLETIC NEWS

Congrats RM Varsity Softball on their 6-0 win over Pacifica girls last week! At the plate J. Fernandez went 2 for 4, and A. Estrada went 2 for 4! Alicia Estrada also pitched a complete game no-hitter (7 IP, 16 Ks, no walks) PERFECT GAME!!! Spartans Elevate – Together We Rise! WE>me!
