Oxnard Union High School District: Poetry Workshops and Slam 2021-2022

yOUr Digital Library! is pleased to present a collaboration with the Ventura County Arts Council to host a series of bi-monthly POETRY workshops for ALL Oxnard Union students.

Poetry has the capacity to empower and heal. Now more than ever, our students crave and need opportunities to express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. With the help of published poet, Ventura College Professor, and Master Poet-Teacher in the classroom, Fernando A. Salinas, students gain personalized feedback on their poems so they can improve their craft as artists and establish their voice as future leaders. The workshop series culminates in the annual Poetry Slam in May where students from all grade levels come together, share, and celebrate their work.

Three of our OU students, Unique Shehee (OHS-2018),  Genesis Perez (CIHS-2019) and Angelina Leanos (CIHS–2020) went on to become Ventura County Youth Poet Laureates!!!

Starting Thursdsay, October 7, 2021, poetry workshops will be held every other Thursday. A Poetry Workshop Google Classroom has been created for students. Join Code: ppd2745. The Meet links for workshops are located in the Google Classroom. Attached, you’ll find the flyer, and here’s the link to the Poetry Workshop page on  www.yOUrDigitalLibrary.org

No previous poetry experience needed. All grades and students are welcome and encouraged to participate.
