The IB Career-related Program is academic content combined with practical, hands-on courses that will equip you with knowledge and skills that are highly valued in the 21st century world of employment.
What Is the IB CP Core?
The CP core bridges the IB academic courses and the career-related study and provides students with a combination of academic and practical skills.
The personal and professional skills course is designed for students to develop attitudes, skills and strategies to be applied to personal and professional situations and contexts now and in the future. Emphasizes skills development for the workplace, as these are transferable and can be applied in a range of situations. (2 years)*
Service learning is the development and application of knowledge and skills towards meeting an identified and authentic community need. (50 hours)
Language development encourages students to improve their proficiency in a second language. The ability to communicate in more than one language is essential to the IB’s concept of an international education. (50 hours)
Through the reflective project students identify, analyze, critically discuss and evaluate an ethical issue arising from their career-related studies. The reflective project is intended to promote high-level research, writing and communication skills, intellectual discovery, and creativity. (completed over 2 years)*

How Do You Earn an IB Career-Related Programme Certificate?
To earn an IB Career-related Certificate, a student must complete the following during their 11th and 12th grade years:
- Complete one of Rio Mesa’s two-year
- Take any two IB Diploma Program courses
- Complete the IB CP Core
