Rio Mesa High School Athletic Hall of Fame Bylaws

Mission Statement:

The Rio Mesa High School Athletic Hall of Fame exists to recognize and honor Rio Mesa High School Student Athletes, Coaches, Teams, Administrators and Sports Contibutors for their achievements and/or contributions to the Rio Mesa High School Athletic program.

Hall of Fame Committee:

The Rio Mesa High School Athletic Director will serve as the Chairman.

Prospective Hall of Fame Committee members must submit an application to the Athletic Director. The committee members will select up to nine (9) members who will serve a four (4) year term; committee members may succeed themselves. At least one of the members shall be a member of the Rio Mesa Athletic Booster Club.

The Secretary is appointed by the Athletic Director and is a non-voting member. The Secretary will be responsible for keeping historical files on all nominees. 

Committee members who are nominated for the Hall of Fame will not be involved in the nomination process or discussion and shall be excused from the voting process. 

This committee will be responsible for choosing inductees from those individuals and teams that have been recommended through the application process. They will use the criteria set forth by the committee to make this determination.

Nomination Criteria:

Athlete:

An athlete may be eligible for nomination into the Rio Mesa Hall of Fame after five years following graduation from Rio Mesa. 

Team: 

A team may be eligible for nomination into the Rio Mesa Hall of Fame after five years.

Coach: 

A coach may be eligible for nomination after having coached Rio Mesa High School and being retired from coaching for at least three years. 

Administrator:

An administrator may be eligible for nomination after having worked at Rio Mesa High School and being retired for at least three years.

Sports Contributor:

A sports contributor is eligible for nomination as an individual or group who has helped to develop and foster growth of athletics in the Rio Mesa athletic community. Any Rio Mesa coach, community member, or group who has had a significant impact on the athletic community may also be eligible for nomination.

Special Nominees:

Under unique circumstances, the Hall of Fame Committee has the ability to waive the number of years' requirement and/or graduation requirement with 2/3 majority vote of the committee. 

Nomination Process:

  • Nominations for consideration of induction into the Rio Mesa Hall of Fame may be by committee members or by public nominations. Applications for nomination will be available in the Rio Mesa High School Athletic Office and online through the Rio Mesa Athletics website.
  • The numbers of inductees will be limited to no more than five per year from the following categories:
    • Athletes
    • Teams
    • Coaches
    • Contributor
    •  Administrator
  • Basic Timeline:
    • August-February 15th - nomination deadline February 15th
    • Late February - nominations go to the committee
    • March - committee votes
    • Early April - Announcement of new members (Awards ordered)
    • Late May - Ceremony
  • Once nominated, nominees will be active for five years. After five years those not selected will be placed on the inactive list and be eligible for re-nomination.
  • A quorum must be present to vote. 
  • Voting will be done by a majority vote (50% + 1)
  • Revisions to the by-lays shall be presented at the November meeting. Revisions shall be passed with a 2/3 vote for the entire committee.
