RMHS ATHLETICS MISSION STATEMENT
The Athletic Department serves as an integral part of Rio Mesa High School, and its mission is to provide an opportunity, through athletic competition, for students to develop physically, socially, intellectually, and emotionally. At Rio Mesa, athletics is viewed as an extension of the classroom in which student-athletes learn to strive for excellence in an atmosphere of teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect.
Student-athletes at Rio Mesa High School must be academically eligible with a GPA of at least 2.0 and passing at least 20 semester credits. They must be well-behaved at all times and realize that athletic participation is a privilege, not a right. They are to be always respectful to teachers, coaches, officals, opponents, and classmates. In addition, Rio Mesa High School’s student-athletes are expected to be drug and alcohol free.

Summer Basketball Program
The Rio Mesa Girls Basketball Program runs for five weeks. It involves two tournaments for athletes that are attempting to earn a place on the varsity team and one tournament for the lower level teams. The lower level players will have separate practice sessions from the more advanced players and will also have the opportunity to play in a league that we host at Rio Mesa. In addition to their practices the more advanced athletes will participate in one summer league and two multi-team scrimmages. Athletes will be asked to participate according to their demonstrated skill level. The summer program is an evaluation period and team assignment will be based on ability and commitment. All participants must be athletically cleared in order to participate. Please create and complete your online athletic clearance account for 2019-2020 at www.athleticclearance.com and upload a current physical and transportation form.
